Winter Flow
In the heart of winter, our body is in its most Yin state; according to Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Five Elements philosophy, Yin relates to hidden, dark and internal things and to the water element. The organ it connects to is the kidneys, seen as the body's back burners or pilot lights; they need building up as they are our last line of defence. When this system is depleted, we are far more inclined to feel depressed, worried, tired, and immune deficient. So this is not a time to go on a rigorous detox.
Instead, it's a time for warm soups and bone broth, strengthening herb teas and warming restorative pursuits like cosy naps, Qi Gong, Yin yoga, and enriched reading, both the book and audible kind or listening to inspiring podcasts to strengthen and lift your spirits.
