So What's Your Super Power?
A few weeks ago, I was privileged to be given a seat at a DO Lecture workshop held at the home of the English Folk Dance and Song Society, Cecil Sharpe House.
Weirdly, I'd learnt the Cajun two-step here for my little brother's wedding twenty years earlier. It was an interesting negotiation between my husband and I on who was leading the dance! Surrender came when we reached an impasse in the middle of the dance floor. The joy of dancing... lost in a silent power struggle. Eventually, I acquiesced and let him lead; phew - what a relief ! You don’t always have to be in control. Lessons come in such unexpected ways, don't they?
Back to the DO workshop, I'd manifested this serendipitous opportunity. I wanted to attend this workshop (as the previous one had been a game-changer for me). But my current circumstances didn't allow for it. A week later ... an 'We're Giving Chairs' email arrived from the organisers - Why You? Why Now? I didn't hesitate and submitted my case and was invited to attend; I was blown away by the realisation of how quickly this works. Talk about manifesting, I asked and received (must have built some good karma). This kindness touched me deeply, and I'll pay it forward very soon.
My insight at the workshop was also about letting go, albeit in a slightly different context. How often do we hide our light, stay silent, be too humble or feel awkward to put ourselves out there? Instead, we were asked to shift up a gear, let go of social politeness, identify and claim our superpower and shine. I was reminded of this beautiful passage in Marianne Williamson’s Return to Love.
Exercise
What is your greatest skill?
Do you allow your light to shine or hide it? Why?
What stands in your way?
Take a moment and listen to your inner voice.
Ask yourself what is holding me back?
Do you sabotage yourself by taking too much on?
Could you release the distractions and focus on the gold?
Take some quiet time to reflect and write down your thoughts.
"As we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence actually liberates others."
— Marianne Williamson
